The Dubai government has decided to extend free public charging for electric cars until 2022.

Back in September 2017, DEWA (Dubai Electricity and Water Authority) started installing public chargers in Dubai. Right now, Dubai counts 240 public charging points managed by DEWA. These “Green Chargers” can be found in different areas of the city, such as government offices, airports, hotels, petrol stations, etc.

Charging at these Green Chargers has been free for non-commercial users. All electric car drivers have to do is register for the Green Charger Initiative. DEWA has now decided to extend free charging until January 1, 2022.

Since the transition towards electric driving is moving quite slowly in Dubai, it is likely that the free charging will later be extended beyond 2022.

Commercial users, like taxi drivers or delivery vans, can also use DEWA’s chargers. They have to pay per charging session and per consumed kWh.
